Keep calm cause it's King's Day! | Holland

Tudo laranjaaaaaa! Poooois é, hoje os dutchies (como eu carinhosamente gosto de lhes chamar) estão de folga. Porquê? Porque é o aniversário do Rei Willem-Alexander. E eles certamente sabem como dar uma festa e, por isso mesmo, é neste dia, 27 de Abril, que todos saem à rua vestidos de laranja e vão curtir para a rua os melhores DJ's (que os têm!), vender coisas velhas nos mercados e beber muita bebida laranja (sim, outra vez)! Toda a gente sabe que os holandeses são muito nacionalistas e adoram a sua laranja mecânica mais do que tudo e esta é uma das muitas provas disso. E nem só de festas se trata este dia: também é tradição comer os tradicionais tompouce com uma cobertura de laranja.

Everything's orangeeee! Yes, you're right! Today, the dutchies (as I gently like to call them) have the day off. Why? Because it's the King's Willem-Alexander birthday. And the Dutch surely know how to throw a party! That's why that in 27th April everyone goes outside dressed in orange and enjoys the best DJ's in town, sell old things in the traditional orange markets and also drink a special orange juice! Everyone knows the Dutch are very patriotic and love their mechanical orange more than anything and this day is one of the best proofs of it. But it's not just parties: it's also a tradition to eat the tompouce cakes with a orange cover.

Não só em Amesterdão mas em todas as cidades holandesas existe pelo menos uma festa dedicada a este dia. Em Roterdão, a minha futura casa, a festa dá-se na Rotterdam Bridge. E que saudades que eu tenho. Para o ano estarei vestida de laranja de certeza!

It's not just in Amsterdam but in every Dutch city there is at least one party dedicated to the King's Day. In Rotterdam, my future home, the party is at the Rotterdam Bridge. And how I miss it... Next year I'm dressed in orange for sure!
